#MusicMonday – Songs that remind us of home

For this week’s edition of #MusicMonday, we asked some of our Change Agents to compile a playlist of songs that remind them of “home”.

Rudy Nadler-Nir – Breakfast in America (Supertramp)

“For years, this is the Nadler-Nirs’ favourite “start of the day” tune. The clarinet sequence gave rise to wild dancing very often.”

Sam Wilson – Bright Future in Sales (Fountains of Wayne)

“This song is all about getting yourself together, and we all think it’s really funny. We now tell each other to get it together by saying ‘You’ve got a bright future in sales’.”

Stacey Vee – California Dreamin’ (The Mamas & The Papas)

“It reminds me of cycling down the jacaranda-lined streets of Witbank where I spent my childhood (on my pink bicycle with a basket, and a bell – yup). When I was 14 I had my first kiss to this song at the school disco; the remixed version. Oets, oets!”

Kagiso Msimango – I can’t write left handed (Bill Withers)

“When you are a child, grandparents have all the time in the world for you, as opposed to parents who seem very busy. I used to listen to LPs with my grandfather and this was one of our favourites.”

Paul Kerton – Sweet Harmony (The Beloved)

“As far as music is concerned, this song has a lot of sentimental value for me. It doesn’t remind me of home so much in the UK, but home in respect of family and love.”

Have you got any favourites to add to this list? Please share them with us below. If you need a little something to get you amped for this week, give our get-pumped-for-work-playlist from last week a try 🙂
