Maaike Bakker is a Pretoria-based artist and illustrator. Whilst completing her studies as a visual artist, she started exploring illustration alongside her fine art practice to be able to investigate a somewhat more eclectic and light-hearted approach in her work. Bakker enjoys introducing bright colours and stylised imagery and attempts to introduce the viewer to ‘the unseen familiar’. Her illustrations explore pattern, rhythm and odd perspective in a playful manner which sets out to present the viewer with something perplexing yet intriguing.
