With an increasing amount of energy regulators and stores phasing these old-school bulbs out for compact fluorescent (CFL) and LED substitutes, we have no other choice but to join the energy efficient and environmentally friendly bandwagon.
After a recent shopping trip where the purchase of LED lightbulbs cost one of our editorial team-members an arm and a leg, the Change Exchange team stumbled on this Huffington Post article, which provided some useful information on modern light bulbs.
Rule of thumb: The longer they last, the higher the cost. At least we won’t have to change CFL or LED light bulbs so often!
Some interesting light bulb facts:
– CFL and LED bulbs use 75 to 80 percent fewer watts than incandescent bulbs.
– CFL bulbs can last between 8000 and 12000 hours – a huge improvement on the 750 to 1000 hour range of incandescent bulbs.
– LED bulbs last even longer than CFL bulbs – up to 25 000 hours – which translates to more than 20 years if you use the light for three hours a day.
