What it does

If you’ve been through a breakup recently, Mend promises to help you “feel better 58% faster”, which seems like an oddly specific number.

Mend is currently only available on Apple devices. The app will ask you a few questions about your former relationship, and send you a quick start guide to healing via email.

After that you’ll check in every day and listen to short audio training sessions that will give you some perspective and advice, as well as guide you through a journaling activity that is a bit like therapy without the huge bill.

You’ll also have access to newsfeed of stories advice, and interviews that will help you stay motivated and inspired during this difficult time. Each week you can select a theme you’d like to focus on, and Mend will create a personalised journey for you.

Finally, you’ll be able to read authentic stories and get advice from the app’s community, nicknamed “Menders”.

How it helps

The last thing you should feel when you’ve gone through a breakup is alone. We can’t all have a  supportive circle of friends and family, and even if we do, they may not have actually know how to help you beyond some awkward back-patting and saying “there there”.

Mend provides solid advice and information about heartbreak, depression, relationships, and love. It delivers this content with a mix of empathy and actionability that made me feel supported and hopeful, even though I had to use the details of an old breakup to write this review.

Conclusion

If you’re struggling with heartbreak, give Mend a try. The combination of quality content, community, journaling, and progress tracking is a very powerful tool for moving past almost any kind of change, and breakups are no exception.

And if you still can’t see the light at the end of the tunnel, please contact one of the many helplines that are just a Google search away. You are not alone.

What other users say

“MEND app has helped me grow tremendously! It has saved me from my first heartbreak- which was after a 2 year relationship, both of us in our mid-fifties. So not a “typical first heartbreak “. It has helped me heal, taught me to love myself, taught me about what actually happens to the body during a heartbreak including explaining the constant physical ache in my heart and gut. It has given me tools to use to move forward and help me cope, as well as help me understand all the issues behind why it didn’t work and what I can learn from that. It has given me hope for my future as well as taught me what I want to look for in a future relationship. It has also taught me that it’s perfectly wonderful to NOT be in a relationship and that my single life can be wonderful and FULL of happiness! – Flygirlstamper

What the experts say

“I discovered Mend through the podcast ‘Love Is Like a Plant’, and it has worked so well for me that I’ve begun recommending it to my patients going through things like divorce. It really helps to normalize the experience.” – Geri Dugan, Psychiatrist
