Podcast: John Kani on theatre & big breaks during the best and the worst of times

John Kani was born in New Brighton, Port Elizabeth, in 1943. He has spent a lifetime in the theatre, first as an actor and later as playwright and director. His work has been lauded all over the world.

At the time of this interview in November 2016, he was the director of the Market Theatre Laboratory, which he started with Barney Simon in 1988.

Ruda and John had a conversation – mainly in Afrikaans – for VeranderDinge, a lifestyle programme co-produced by BrightRock for DStv channel kykNET. The English translation of their conversation is available in Tell Me Your Story, a book of interviews I did with prominent South Africans about their life choices and about how change has affected them.
